Assess cloud impact using v6 cloud products Update Task 1 + 4 reports with new results + v6 shown here. Update code to include processnig L1 PCs + variable N 2 O Would like feedback on first version before delivering update, so further mods can be included. Produce Draft Final report Aiming for end of year for DFR + code (updated) + user guide (updated) Final Presentation in January, followed by final FR Further work within Study

1.Update RFM coefficients to improve weighting functions / AKs Improve regression method and/or representativeness of training set Might as well base these on latest spectroscopy + line mixing 2.Assess use of humidity and temperature profiles from Metop in place of ECMWF analyses –Avoid errors from ECMWF analysis / forecast + interpolation to IASI time + spatial sampling. –Experience in IASI/AMSU/MHS study indicates v6 retrievals to be of very high quality cf analysis –In study RAL have improved products further by including AMSU+MHS in the OEM and jointly fitting emissivity + cloud parameters 3.Implementation of IASI-retrieved surface spectral emissivity in CH4 retrieval scheme place of Wisconsin data-base. –Errors in emissivity currently limiting fit, preventing noise level being reached over some land surface (especially now PCs used) –Also probably causing anomalous features over barren land, esp. in profile –Can basically use scheme/products from IASI/AMSU/MHS study though may need to assess optimisation of emissivity for CH4 window. –ibility testing, see below) Further work beyond study

4) Addition of the CH4 3.7 micron band: Reflected solar component gives near surface sensitivity. As in TIR, nearby N2O features could give effective cloud correction Region has relatively low SNR, but PCs could help… Further work beyond study
