Activities 2008 - 9 General overview of the activities undertaken by the Livestock Group –Solely by RAP –In collaboration with HQ services, irrespective of source of funding Appreciation and thanks goes to all Directors-General of Livestock Services and CVOs and their representatives for the support during 2008 - 9 Thanks to all colleagues for their supports !

APHCA priority areas –Control of transboundary animal diseases –Small-scale dairy and meat production and processing –Food and feed safety –Industrialization, povery reduction, environment –Technical capacity building through trainings/ workshops: Brucellosis diagnosis and control, Bluetongue diagnosis, WTO-SPS, BSE, VPH, etc.

Activities in 2008 - 9 Control of trans-boundary diseases on going projects –HPAI and H1N1 of prime attention: Dealt with by RAP-ECTAD –ADB Greater Mekong Project phase I completed - 2nd phase approved –FMD DPRK ongoing Bhutan (pipeline) –ERV in pigs Philippines (ongoing) –Bluetongue workshop planned in collaboration with OIE delayed to 2010 –BSE workshop and working group meeting 2008 –Brucellosis diagnosis and control with an emphasis on B. melitensis in collaboration with OIE (VS reports)

Activities in 2008 - 9 Others –Livestock restocking (cattle, goats), feed and veterinary supplies in Tsunami, Cyclone, flood and earthquake affected areas, disease emergencies –Support pig and poultry production in food security project in the Pacific countries

TCDC Instrument established to allow exchange of expertise amongst countries. –Distribution of Brucella (RBT) antigens to 15 countries participated in the 2 nd FAO-APHCA/OIE Regional Workshop on Brucellosis Diagnosis and Control (and Fiji* – upon emergency request) –Thailand‘s request for Jinhua pig semen for use under H.M. Queen‘s project (China – Thailand) –Why do countries do not make use of it? ( * 12,000 doses of RBT antigens provided by Thai DLD.)
