Brouwer (MERLOT).MERLOT  The purpose of this activity was initially to review six significant philosophical schools in education and their application to real contexts.  Learning objective:  To review the major philosophies in education  To become familiar with a variety of teaching theories  Tasks:  Choose three different theories, read about them, and match each one to a philosophy of education: perennialism, existentialism, progressivism, social reconstructionism, humanism, essentialism. There may not be an exact match to a philosophy, however, choose one and explain your rationale for your matching. 2
