Stage 5 Curriculum requirements Core subjects : English, Mathematics,Science,History, Geography and PDHPE All these subjects are mandatory for all students in years 9 &10. 2 elective subjects studied over 2 years (200hrs) 1 Neo course is also chosen in Years 9 & 10 NEO is unique to DHSVAD – can be changed each year Jewellery & Cartooning and Animation are now Board Endorsed Courses – They will appear on RoSA

Things to consider What did you enjoy in years 7&8? What are you interested in? art/food/music/design? Have you already decided on a career path? Do not choose an elective because your friends have. You will be studying these courses for 2 years. Choose carefully. Electives are 200 hour courses. Not sure? Seek advice. (subject teachers, students, Yr advisor) Most electives incur a subject fee. (Refer to booklet)

Student responsibilities Attendance and diligence Ask questions to clarify meaning Time management Make every task count – personal best Save your work electronically Complete tasks ahead of schedule to allow for reflection Inform your teachers if you are having difficulties

Timetable Students need to select 2 electives and 2 reserve electives in order of preference.TWO of these will be assigned for study in 2016. All student preferences will be entered into a database and timetable lines will be created. Students will be updated on their choices in Term 4 A timetable will be created for all students for 2016.

Record of School Achievement RoSA

Qualifications for RoSA attended a government school, an accredited non-government school or a recognised school outside NSW; undertaken and completed courses of study that satisfy the Board’s curriculum and assessment requirements for the Record of School Achievement; complied with any other regulations or requirements (such as attendance) imposed by the Minister or the Board; and completed Year 10.

The RoSA is designed to record and credential the student’s academic results up until the HSC. Students can apply to receive a transcript anytime after the completion of yr10. If a student leaves school before receiving a grade in Year 11 or 12 courses, their RoSA will record the courses they commenced. RoSA acknowledges the fact that many students begin senior secondary study but leave school for employment or other training opportunities before receiving their HSC.

What will you receive? If a student leaves at the completion of yr 10 but before the HSC:- All mandatory curriculum requirements - English, Mathematics, Science, HSIE, Languages, Technology, Music, Visual Arts, PDHPE listed, with an indication of completion by the student. A statement that the student is eligible for the award of a Record of School Achievement. VET courses will be recorded as ‘Completed’ Courses based on Life Skills outcomes and content will be recorded as ‘Completed’

What will it look like?

The ROSA will.. be a record of achievement for students who leave school prior to receiving their HSC report results of moderated, school-based assessment, not external tests ( no School Certificate) be available when a student leaves school any time after they complete Year 10 – from the Board of Studies NOT the school be cumulative and recognise a student’s achievements until the point they leave school show a result for all courses completed in Year 10 and Year 11

The facts The RoSA records completed Stage 5 and Preliminary Stage 6 courses and grades, and participation in any uncompleted Preliminary Stage 6 courses. It is of specific use to students leaving school prior to the HSC. Students who go on to complete the HSC will see all their Stage 6 (Year 11 and 12) courses and results on their HSC.complete All students have access to a record of their courses studied and their grades through Students OnlineStudents Online One requirement for the RoSA is that a student must attend until the final day of Year 10 at their school.

And…. Students completing the Yr11 – Preliminary course, will receive a transcript with grades A-E. Students completing the HSC course will receive a transcript that displays both their Yr 11 & Yr 12 results
