Project description Project duration: 7 July 2008 – 30 September 2010 Number of pupils involved in the project: Slovak: 34 Male: 6 Female: 28 Norwegian/Sami: 20 Male: 10 Female: 10 Number of teachers involved in the project: Slovak: 9 Male: 2 Female: 7 Norwegian/Sami: 7 Male: 3 Female: 4 8

Main project purpose To establish an international cooperation between two secondary schools from culturally and geographically different European regions – north of Norway and central Slovakia. To teach and learn pupils how to accept and appreciate their own and other cultures with their respective natural backgrounds and share them and protect them for future generations. 9

Main educational fields Natural richness of the regions, methods of its preservation and presentation to foreign visitors. Diverse cultural heritage of the regions with special focus on folk traditions, methods of its preservation and presentation to foreign visitors. 10

Other impacts on pupils Promoting multicultural education Improving the English language skills Insight into other European languages Norwegian/Sami/Slovak Development of social skills when staying with families during mobilities Improving the skills of pupils in using information and communication technologies New experiences for teachers and managements of both schools 11

Project end products A CD with the presentation entitled: Natural and Cultural Richness of Norway and Slovakia A brochure with texts and pictures with the same title: Natural and Cultural Richness of Norway and Slovakia Both end products will serve as teaching and learning materials at both schools in various subjects 13

Project publicity Activities to disseminate the project results, experiences and end products: Putting the information on the school website and so document the developement of the project Making exhibitions of project outcomes at both schools Organizing presentation meetings at schools Organizing the final meeting to evaluate the project Creating 2 informational bulletins, 1 for each year to inform about project activities Creating photo albums to document project activities Writing articles for school, local, regional and national newspapers 14

Cross-cutting issues The project will contribute to : A sustainable development of the environment by focusing on protecting the environment A sustainable development of the economy by focusing on unique and attractive aspects of nature and culture in respective regions to increase tourism A sustainable development of social issues by elimination social exclusion from socio-economic reasons among pupils Gender equality by assuring a good gender balance in the course of the project 15

Regional aspect 2 regions are involved in the project: Karasjok in Finnmark region – in the north of Norway Detva in Banská Bystrica region – in the central part of Slovakia On general background knowledge about both countries we trace characteristics of both regions and find similarities and differences between them and mutual benefits that can arise from them. 16
