500+ Universities in India, we need 1775 by 2020. 3200+ Engineering colleges, More than 1.2 million seats. 10 million students appearing 12 th /HSC. The Client- not well informed. In 2015, “Knowledge Commission of India” estimates 15 million students passing HSC, 2 million aspirants for Engineering Education, can we provide them opportunity of excellent learning, and then employment? Limited innovation, research, IPRs and Product Development. Producing standards minded graduates-obviously not much.

Pathetic Condition of Indian Higher Education ◦417+ Universities for 120 crore population ◦India has 18% of world population ◦2.6% land mass ◦People 25-61 age group is highest in the world. ◦Nearly half of the population is less than 30 years of age. 5

What Ails Indian Universities “If you plan for a year, plant a seed. If for ten years, plant a tree. If for a hundred years, teach the people” “When you sow one seed, You will reap a single harvest. When you teach the people, You will reap a hundred harvests” 6

Post Independence Scenario - Era of subsidies ◦ Three million students leave schools, every year, to join 417+ universities. ◦ There are only about 150 Deemed Universities and 26000+ colleges to meet this demand. ◦ Average monthly Tuition Fee in India is equal to a cup of coffee in Café Coffee Day. ◦ The Fee ranges from Rs.30 to 100 per month, except in few Private Universities. ◦ Fee is frozen since 1960. It barely accounts 5-6% of actual cost. Where as in US it is 60% and 27% in China. 7

Vocational Skills Gap Only 5% of India’s workforce (20-24 years) have vocational training compared with 28% in Mexico and 96% in Korea. By 2015 major labour shortages will emerge in the industrialized nations forcing movement of both manufacturing & service jobs to wherever the skills are best. Upgrading skills essential to tap global markets 9
