Dandridge Dandridge is the second oldest city in Tennessee. Dandridge, named in honor of George Washingtons wife, Martha Dandridge Curtis Washington, is one of Tennessees oldest and most historic communities. Founded in the late 1700s and incorpo- rated in 1843, Dandridge became the seat of Jefferson County three years before the state of Tennessee was founded. Many of the original buildings still stand, adding a flavor of an era gone by. Serving as the home of Carson- Newman College, Dandridge is located in east Tennessee near the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
