Power Point template Here are some ideas for setting up your PowerPoint for the Christmas Around the World Project. Remember: Add pictures and animation for interest, don’t focus on pictures and gimmicks alone.
2
Insert Your Country and your name Title page
3
Traditions List 1-3 traditions from your Country. This is a good place to write a paragraph to explain each one. There may be 3-5 slides on traditions and activities.
4
Continuation of Traditions List another tradition and explain it. For example: Caroling
5
Traditional Music Example: Christmas music is played in most public areas from Thanksgiving until Christmas day. Some radio stations even devote their entire day of broadcasting to nothing but Christmas music.
6
Activities Explain Activity 1 For instance, hanging stockings over the fireplace. Why do we do this?
7
Activity #2 Add a common activity and explain. Example: baking and decorating cookies.
8
Symbols or Crafts Use 3-4 slides to show different symbols or crafts associated with the holidays in your country. Things like: Santa and his reindeer Candles or wreaths Advent calendars Gingerbread houses Candy canes
9
Another Symbol Symbols don’t necessarily need much explanation. They are usually recognizable and only need a caption. Like this Snowangel
10
Craft #1 A common craft during the holidays is to make a handmade ornament. Choose one or two that would show the feeling of the holidays for the country you are studying.
11
Special Foods This is a page that usually needs very little writing other than to identify the dish. You can have several different foods on one page. Such as turkey and fruitcake
12
Any Special Clothing or Outfits Some countries wear different clothes during the holidays. Show us.
13
Special Stories or Beliefs Stories differ, so tell us what you found out. For instance in Australia, it’s Summertime. Kissing under the Mistletoe comes from England, and the Poinsettia plant comes from Mexico. Are there beliefs behind these? What are some special beliefs or stories of Santa? Pere Noel, Papa Noel, or the Christmas Gnome are all different names for St. Nicholas. What does the name mean in your country?
14
The Ending Try to close your presentation smoothly. You might say something like: I hope you enjoyed this and learned something you otherwise wouldn’t have known about my country.
