Adding AP Classes Some colleges give credit or advanced placement on basis of AP Exam scores (3,4,5) Classes stress improving writing skills, collaborative problem solving, and intense student discussions Your transcript reflects rigor in the college admissions process- good for competitive colleges
4
Adding AP Classes Research – AP students more likely to finish college in 4 years – 31% of colleges look at AP experience when determining scholarships Your GPA – 10 point addition in grading (not Hope calculation) – Higher GPA for CP class v. AP class? Discuss with your teacher/parent/counselor 22 AP classes are offered at GHS

Where Can I Attend? A student may apply to attend any public college, private college, or technical college. GGC Georgia Perimeter Georgia Tech (MA) Others…
9
How Does Grading Work? If the college transcript shows a letter grade, the high school will transcribe the grade as: A = 95 B = 85 C = 77 D = 72 F = 55 If an EOCT is required for a course taken at college (Ex. Economics), the student must complete the EOCT at high school. The EOCT counts 20% of the student's final H.S. grade. If the student fails a class, it may jeopardize graduation. No points are added to the final grade (exception – 10 pts. are added to Georgia Tech –Calculus II). All College Credit Now classes are included on the high school transcript.
10
What Are the Pros and Cons? PROS Students get a head start on college and can finish HS at the same time. Tuition fees are low. College schedule may be a better fit with a work schedule Strong self- discipline is required CONS It may be difficult to keep up with important Junior and Senior information if students are not at their home school. Some colleges prefer a different curriculum path, i.e. AP classes. Colleges will not communicate with parents of College Credit Now students. Not all colleges accept the credits. Transportation is not provided
