1 Course Introduction, Role and Mission, Standards, and forms Module 1

2  Review Course Information & obtain all needed materials: ◦ Course websites, syllabus & schedule  Prepare to Introduce yourself to the class. What is this?  Video technology for presentations ◦ Students obtain access to video equipment and develop skills to be able to post video clips to websites or other outlet sources.

3  Provide occupational competence  Develop positive interpersonal and leadership skills  Develop economic competence  Prepare students for entry into and advancement in jobs within business, and equally important, prepare students to handle their own business affairs and to function intelligently as consumers and citizens in a free market economy.  Prepare students for further education.

4  Strengthen the basic skills – listening, speaking, writing and computing, problem- solving, and computer-related. Strengthen each individual’s self-concept and desire to succeed.  Formulate plans to ensure continued educational growth, whether it be formal or informal.

5  “Understanding the various tasks and duties associated with managing a secondary program in business or marketing is an important first step in prioritizing professional development needs. In addition to the traditional duties associated with teaching academic subjects, business and marketing teachers also involve students in leadership activities that require advanced preparation, travel, teamwork, fundraising, and community involvement. They maintain laboratories that need to utilize modern technology used in industry. They recruit and manage advisory boards of industry experts who inform and provide direction for their programs, and they seek to provide students an education that will build a strong foundation for entering the workforce or pursuing additional education. 13  In order to complete this course successfully, students should pay attention to the due dates and stay on schedule  I would recommend that you block out dedicated time each week to work on the course requirements.  Please be aware that this course requires both independent completion of various activities, as well as working with others in the course through discussion boards and some group projects.  Overall, my goal is that each of you completes the course successfully and are happy with the process, thus the importance of understanding the course before we begin.
