Technical Models of NAPs PTTMetro Project Milton Kaoru Kashiwakura PTTMetro Technical Coordinator NAPLA 2005 – Lima / Peru

PTTMetro Project PTTMetro is a Brazilian Internet Steering Committee project (CGI.br). Provide NAP facility in metropolitan regions with ISPs interested in Internet traffic exchange Mains advantages : – Cost Reduction – Performance improvement – Gain more control over their routing

PTTMetro Project PTTMetro implementation characteristics : – Neutral – Quality – Reduced cost alternative with high availability for ISP – One traffic exchange matrix per metropolitan region Locations: – São Paulo – Brasília – Rio de Janeiro – Others 9 places to be defined

PTTMetro - São Paulo Connect all NAP together in the unique infrastructure using dark fiber Layer 2 switched Ethernet architecture VLAN (IPv4, IPv6, Multicast,...) Private AS (AS64512 to AS65535) for routers servers and looking glass INOC-DBA – Inter-Network Operations Center Dial-By-ASN (http://www.pch.net/inoc-dba/

Joining requirements ASN (Autonomous System Number) BGP-4 (Border Gateway Protocol Version 4) Needs to sign a connection agreement (Termo de Conexão ao PTTMetro). Needs to make bilateral or multilateral peering agreements with ISPs connected to the PTTMetro. Connection in one PIX per location. Broadcast traffic limited to ARP resolution Default route to an ISP only if authorized by it. If announce IP prefixes related to other AS connected to PTTMetro it needs to be marked with NEXT_HOP_SELF

Fee Model Cross- connect PTTMetro SDH, PDH, FR, etc. DGO Switch L2 1 2 3 4

Redundancy physical and 'genetic' redundancy by using switches from two or more vendors PIX-USP PIX-Metrored PIX- Others PIX-Central PIX-Optiglobe Duplex System
