+RAICES Root servers are a key part of the Internet, For technology reasons the number of this servers is limited to 13 10 of them are located in USA, 2 in Europe and 1 in Japan Anycast technology made possible to have clones of Servers and locate them around the world At this moment there are more than 100 copies Two copies before +Raices in LAC region

+RAICES To deploy Internet DNS root servers 2004 MoU with ISC – F Root Server responsible Project Roles: ISC, F root server responsible, gives its experience and expertise to manage anycast copies Local Host: provides facilities (building, conectivity and some equipments) LACNIC identify local hosts and provides funds for installation and maintennance costs during the fisrt 2 years. Others (Connectivity, equipments)

eLAC It was the result of the Regional Conference of Governments, in 2005 (Río de Janeiro). eLAC-2007 includes 70 goals. eLAC-2007 process is runs by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) LACNIC has activities that directly contribute with the achievement of 25 of the eLAC-2007 objectives probing that LACNIC is an active actor in the development of the Information Society in our region. LACNIC usually participates in every eLAC activities, working groups, etc. Specially in those working groups related to the technical stability of Internet.

LACNIC and eLAC-2010 A new round of goals set by the governments to be achieved by 2010. LACNIC participated during the debates and the elaboration of the 83 goals of the San Salvador Commitment. Particularly, goal 15 referring to IPv6: Carry out actions geared towards promoting the adoption of the IPv6 protocol at the public and private levels with a view to making all public services offered via the IP protocol, as appropriate, available on IPv6 and ensuring that the main State infrastructure and applications are IPv6-compatible. Actions to be implemented will, to the extent possible, include the early implementation of requirements to ensure that government procure equipment and applications that are IPv6-compatible.

6DEPLOY European Comission project (FP7) Participants: AfriNIC, BREN (BG), Cisco (NL), Consulintel (SP), FCCN (PT), GRNET (GR), LACNIC, Martel (CH), NIIFI (HU), Renater (FR), Soton-ECS (UK), UCL (UK), UNINETT (NO), APNIC, RIPE-NCC, … Collection and maintenance of material for the training sessions, and the tailoring of programmes in conjunction with the requesting organisation. Hands-on IPv6 training (focusing more on training trainers). E-learning course. Assistance for the development of a strategic plan (roadmap) for the deployment and advise on practical aspects such as equipment ordering specifications, routing plans, etc. An IPv6 Deployment Guide will be maintained, and supplemented with examples of case studies. A less-technical How to Deploy guide will also be produced for administrators.
