We love fast food! Is any fast food “good” for you? If we are going to eat fast food, how can we choose the best options?
2
How will we define “good”? Not more than 1/3 of your day’s calorie allotment Not more than 1/3 of the calories are from fat Not too high in sodium Contains some nutrient that we tend to lack (Vitamin A, Vitamin C, calcium, iron)
3
Your task Go to the site www.nutritiondata.self.com/www.nutritiondata.self.com/ In lower right, use Daily Needs Calculator to find your daily calorie allotment --for activity: if you are an athlete or engage in more than 30 minutes of strenuous activity at least 5 days a weak pick “very active”—otherwise pick somewhat active (unless you are a couch potato!) Make a list of fast food meals you would really eat that you think might be more nutritious—then go to section on Nutrition Topics and try to find the labels for those foods (for some restaurants like Subway you will have to type “Subway nutrition labels” into Google) Fill in chart with your meal choice(s)—play around with it until you find a “good” meal that you would eat
