2 Map Utilities Computers can allow students to create and use maps in creative ways. This technology grabs the student attention and they want to learn. It is like playing on a computer than actually learning in classroom setting.

3 Global Positioning Systems GPS stands for Global Positioning Systems. It is a group of satellites to pinpoint were the person or object is located. There are two GPS systems: One operated by the American military and one operated by the Russian military.

4 Spreadsheets and Database Software Spreadsheets allows students work with numerical data. Databases allows students to search through large amounts of geographic data using the CIA World Factbook. CIA World Factbook Students can input own data and perform activities using this information.

5 Multimedia and Hypermedia Photos, videos, visual aids, and animation is more appealing to students. Presentation software and videodisk can be used to present new information. The students can also use presentation software to present their work in front of the class.

6 Multimedia and Hypermedia Teachers or students can add political cartons and sound to make presentation more appealing to students. Students can use a digital cameras to take pictures of area historical sites to make a web page on these local sites.

7 The Internet The Internet makes doing research easier in rural areas. Information and media are free on the Internet. They can do homework in groups by e-mail. Internet has curriculum units that can be downloaded. Internet has worksheets and activities that can be printed.
