3 Functional Requirements
Functional requirements: Functional requirements define how the product is to perform and under what conditions. Example: Car door rubber seal - Will not leak under 20 mph wind and 2 inches of rain per hour for two hours. When specifications include functional and non functional requirements, it is referred to as gray box design.

4 Tolerance Design Tolerance design is considered a cost saving technique since loosening tolerances on a specification generally reduces costs. See example 41.1 on page 421.
