1. VPL is an inbound shipping savings program Shipping charges on average are marked up +/- 35% by suppliers UTMB is partnering with VPL whom works directly with suppliers to utilize national FedEx discounts

2. No internal change in ordering process or interaction with the suppliers. Only change is that the shipping charges will now come from VPL, at an average savings of 35%. VPL receives PO and invoice data feed from UTMB on scheduled basis. Data feed will be used by VPL to match shipping charges back to the corresponding GL/department/grant (CFS) that is associated with the PO. VPL will invoice UTMB for shipping charges, whereas product invoices will be direct from the supplier

3. How are shipping charges tracked? Inbound freight is defined as shipping charges for delivery of products to your department Instead of suppliers charging their own shipping rates, suppliers will use UTMB’s Federal Express designated account number for charges related to inbound shipments. Designated account number is for internal use only. End users will not have to handle shipping charges. FedEx will invoice VPL directly for the shipping charges and VPL will in turn invoice UTMB (at rates which are more favorable). VPL will prepare electronic invoice files for each purchase order which will be fed electronically into PeopleSoft matching the Chartfield string of the corresponding PO.
