COMMON APPLICATION Association founded in 1975 with 19 private colleges seeking to provide a standardized application; 30 years later, 550 schools are members and include both public and private schools CA utilizes “holistic review” in which students are assessed in terms of their full range of academic and personal achievements

New Members Over 60 new colleges/universities joined for the 2015-2016 school year Capital U, Johnson & Wales, North Carolina State U, Ohio Northern, Tulane U, U of Toledo Exclusive Members Bates, Colgate, Cornell, John Carroll, Miami, Ohio State, UC

College/University Specific Applications Visit the college/university undergraduate admission link via the school website Create an account Complete online application, pay appropriate fees, and submit electronically Paper Applications Limited, but do exist (e.g., Georgetown)

If the college or university to which you are applying is a CA member, then you must complete and submit the CA; NO EXCEPTIONS!! Some schools will offer a Fast-Track or Accelerated Application, or special applications for athletes to encourage students to submit applications – this process is discouraged

Be attentive to school specific deadlines Counseling office will be prepared to send first round of application materials the 2 nd week of September Counselors require 2 school weeks to process application materials Ohio State University Top school applied to by CFHS Class of 2015 PRIORITY deadline for students seeking consideration for merit scholarships, in addition to the Honors and Scholars Programs – November 1 st

November 1 st falls on a Sunday this year If you desire to have an application submitted by November 1 st, then you must notify the Counseling Department no later than October 19 th

Use your full, legal name on a application materials and testing information Be appropriate -- use school email account, if necessary Work in a Timely Manner -- Deadline is December 11 th Do the work yourself -- not your parents!

168 students in senior class Recommendations via Common Application is for OUTSIDE recommenders only, not CFHS teachers Decision to self- report grades and test scores is personal choice, but test scores must be sent directly from testing agency

Mrs. Newton will overview process (refer to handout) When you are ready to have the office submit school documentation, you must meet with your Counselor; No Email Communication!
