2. Atkarsk is a small town.There are about 27,8 thousand people.The area of the city is 10,54 square km.There are two rivers in Atkarsk:the Atkara and the Medveditsa.

3. The Medvedisa The main sights of the Medvedi t sa are Zaseka and the former Reserve park Zaton. Since 60-s of the last century, the Medveditsa has been suffering from contamination by industrial sewage from Petrovsk`s furniture factory and our city's sewerage system.

4. The Atkara One of the problems is shallowing of the river due to the fact that there is no dam there. This causes fish disappearance. Another problem is lack of treatment facilities of good quality. That's why the river suffers from sewage waters. The common problem of all small rivers is polluting with wastes. Plastic bottles and packages, broken furniture, waste paper, building trash pollute the banks of the Atkara and the Medveditsa. This year a lot of cleaning work was done. And now people of our town should be more responsible for the cleanness and purity of our rivers.

6. Springs There are several springs in Atkarsk, such as: Jelly,Sly,Tar,Blue necklace. The best water is that one flowing to the east. The water flowing to the north, to the west or south is of bad quality especially when the south wind blows. Of course, the springs water is the best, but not all that's why the ecologists advise to boil it before drinking Springs

7. Cars and industries of the town add pollutants into the air. The main source of air pollution is the oil factory. Its smoke often spoils the air in the part of the town called ``Saliniya``. It releases harmful substances and people suffer from headache and sore throat.

8. One of the main ecological problems of our town is trash disposal. Garbage is rubbish to be thrown away. This is waste paper,used glass, old clothes, building trash,food waste. Unfortunately,there are no litter bins in some parts of our town. People throw rubbish where they want. There is a lot of rubbish in the countryside, along the railway lines, in towns ravines. It causes air pollution. In spring polluted with garbage streams get into the rivers. In summer places with garbage become dangerous, because they are dry and often start burning. Acrid smoke damages people's health and makes any outdoor activity unpleasant.
