Relation of the GE indicators of the project and the SDGs
The SDGs have been proposed thorugh an intergovernmental process after Rio+20, the Open Working group on SDGs SDGs framework: Goals Targets indicators The SDGs have proposed goals (17) and targets (169) that are expected to be adopted in September 2015 To date, the indicators pertaining to each target are being analysed and discussed by the wider UN system and consulted with member States The indicators of Green Economy and its underlying basic statistics will be useful to monitor and report in many different targets/goals of the proposed SDGs
3
Proposed SDGs: goals and targets
SDG Goals & Targets proposed by OWG’s outcome document Proposed Goals 1-6 build on the agenda of the MDGs, while goals 7-17 break new ground. There is a stand alone goal in Energy, Goal 7 There is a stand alone goal related to hunger, nutrition, food security and sustainable agriculture, Goal 2 Environment domain is expanded in the proposed SDGs in the goals on oceans and marine resources, ecosystems and biodiversity, land degradation and desertification, and are also embedded under all other goals. The need for improvement in the field of data and statistics to monitor progress on the SDGs and the associated need for statistical capacity building in developing countries have been highly recognized in the Report.
