2. The Cover-page Include a cover-page that includes – Your Name – The report title – The clients Don’t forget to include the rubric at the very front of your report. i.e. in front of the cover page

3. The Cover Letter This is where your 4 prompts go. Do not provide subheadings or labels for this letter. – Paragraph 1 Reflect a statement of the problem back to the Lawlers. – Paragraph 2 How do the Medical histories of Tom and Deborah help you in your role as a genetic councilor? – Paragraph 3/4 Write brief medical description of Downs syndrome and Breast Cancer (brief = about 50-100 words each. (tell them more detail can be found in your science section) – Paragraph 5 Summarize your report contents to Deborah and Tom (Hint: be brief and tell them more detail can be found in your conclusions section. Also, avoid opinion)

4. The Science Section This will make up the bulk of your report Split it into two clearly labelled sections, one for Downs and one for Breast Cancer. It is intended to provide detailed information about each of the diseases.

5. The Science section Each section should include LABELLED subsections that discuss: 1.What the disease is and its symptoms 2.Causes, include risk analysis 3.Tests available 4.Treatments/cures/options 5.Inheritance patterns in Lawler Family (Pedigrees and Punnets)

6. Summary section These sections should be clearly labelled 1.An opening paragraph explaining what the report has done and what is contained in the conclusion section 2.Paragraphs summarizing your research. Concentrate on describing the inheritance patterns of Breast Cancer and Downs for the Lawler’s. 3.Paragraph summarizing the pros/cons and options for testing for BRCA 1 4.Paragraph summarizing the pros/cons and options for testing for Downs. 5.An exit paragraph with a few final words. You could include implications for the family and the impact on insurance availability/premiums in this section. Avoid opinion. This report is about providing information and options. NOT about making things “better”

7. Appendices/Table of contents/Reference List You may opt to include your Punnet square analysis and Pedigrees as an appendix at the end of your report or embed them in the science section. Just be sure to reference it if you decide to include it as an appendix. A table of contents is optional. It should appear at the beginning of your report after the cover page and before your cover letter. Major sources of reference material should be cited. Include these in the text or as a separate section at the end.
