Background SharePoint purchased as a result of an organisation wide consultation concluding there was a need for an application that would provide the ability for better knowledge management, collaboration and tools to assist with staff with their main work processes.

Organisation Calendar Previously no central repository for all Council events. Calendar content Local calendars from teams, sections and councillors “bubbled up” to feed into wider organisation Calendar using content types. Content can also be loaded directly into the Corporate calendar.

Just a few benefits… User friendly (mostly) for staff to learn basics Has encouraged better collaboration within and between teams. Learning from peers as we use SP New document management practices developed via SP functionality Saving information / versioning docs Workflow approval Blogs/Bulletin Announcements rather than email

Next steps Re-design look and feel Revise Information Architecture Main navigation Labels – replace “Stuff” etc Toolboxes – Information and applications to assist staff in their roles. Integrate existing external applications into SharePoint Staff directory integration with My Sites etc
