2 Piaget’s conception of learning Teachers must focus on the process of learners’ thinking and not only the product Learners should be actively involved in activities Theory of constructivism: view cognitive development as a process where learners actively build systems of meaning and understanding of development

3 Jerome Bruner ( discovery learning) The inactive mode: The infant learns from the world through biting, moving, touching etc The iconic mode: to store images in the brain by means of pictures Symbolic mode: Highest form of thinking: Info stored as symbols, thoughts and concepts.

4 Discovery learning Ask leading questions to guide inquiring Use a variety of media Allow learners to satisfy their curiosity Use a wide variety of examples Motivate: stimulate interest and curiosity Structure: on learners’ cognitive level Sequence: logical, chronologically Reinforcement: rewards, praise

9 Mediated learning(Feuerstein’s theory) Information is processed by the learner phases of the mental act It is the task of the educator to raise the level of cognitive functioning of all learners by creating mediated learning experience by: 1.selecting stimuli based on the educational, sosio-economic and culture needs of learners 2.Schedule stimuli in time and space
