Our Budget has been relatively stable … But serials inflation continues to rage … 2012/13 Serials Expenditures: $1,072,594 Increase at 6% Inflation:$ 64,356 Total needed in 2013/14 to maintain buying power$1,136,950

Effects … Under the old standard “just-in-case” collection development environment, devastating Under our new “on-demand” collection development environment, we are much better able to cope in the short to mid-term In the long term, however, damage will cascade throughout the collections

Steely Library has been Proactive… SourceFinder service is strong and successful New Extended Collections Services Librarian Very fast, reliable – has built an environment of trust Completed the major portion of our move to electronic journals Have experimented with and are now moving forward with an increased emphasis on pooled funding. Faculty now have multiple avenues to select materials: For 2013, across-the-board departmental allocations -- $1,500 Pooled fund for teaching faculty only Small pooled fund for Steely Liaison Librarians SourceFinder Continuing to pursue funding from non-traditional sources

Collections – Arguably, the best journal collection outside of Kentucky’s research libraries (UK, U of L) – Progressed from 0% online in 2001 to 98+% online in 2013 – Increased subscriptions by 161% to 4,124 from 1,578 2012 Library Convocation

RFID Project is now nearly complete – Sufficient tags in hand to complete the job – Security gates are now RFID technology – Self checkout is now available

The Bridging the Gap “Series” Bridging the Gap I (KY): $1.3 million project – 50 counties (Appalachian, far Western, bordering) – 50 full package participants, 17 tuition only – Partners: NKU, Bluegrass, KDLA Bridging the Gap II (WV): $1.2 million project – Concentrating on isolated, at-risk counties – 40 participants planned – Partners: NKU, Mountwest, WV Library Commission Completed 6/30/2012
