Titus PulloLucius Vorenus

 Follows two fictional characters through Julius Caesar’s civil war from 48 BC  Spans from end of Caesar’s Gallic Wars to his assignation in March of 44BC  Octavian also plays a role in the show

 I’ll focus on Season 1 which follows Julius Caesar and his army.  At this time were private armies Loyal to commander, NOT state  Formation: Hastati (raw/ inexperienced soldiers) Principes (Men in there prime) Triarii (Veteran soldiers, equipt with long spears instead of the pilum or gladius)

 A clip from the show, showing the Romans at war fighting the Gauls:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NqzD rFX-cNs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NqzD rFX-cNs

 Bigger picture facts! Such as the army’s where abouts and dates  The formation of the army  How the Roman’s thought of their soldiers Should be both the fighter and the farmer  Ex: the character Vorenus

 The swords and helmets were not exactly accurate.  It is unlikely Pompey and Caesar would have worn brown leather Lorica Musculata (a type of leather breast plate) and attic style helmets  The Chain Mail (which had not been in great use at the time)

 Executive Producer Bruno Heller had this to say about the show: “This series is much more about how the psychology of the characters affects history than simply following the history as we know it.”
