Many people feel anxiety when starting a new job Employers generally understand What are some of the worries? ◦ Getting there on time ◦ Not messing up on the first day ◦ Getting along with other co-workers ◦ Understanding the rules/policies ◦ Going through training

Your first day depends on the company You might be put right into the position You may have to go through a training period Some companies have very formal employee orientation programs You may go through training with other new hires

The Organizational Structure of the business shows how the workplace is laid out This is very important to know Not all structures are the same It tells you who is in authority When you begin work you will be given a job title – where do you fit in on the organizational chart?

All companies have policies and rules New employees are issued a policy manual They include: ◦ Salary and benefits ◦ Attendance, absences and punctuality policies ◦ Time off without pay (Leave) ◦ Work schedule and records ◦ Expenses and reimbursement ◦ Due process ◦ Probation and review Just like your CNS Agenda

Supervisor is responsible for training you Use the supervisor for communication Ask the supervisor for direction Don’t ask for or expect special treatment Accept and use the supervisor’s suggestions

Every worker must pay federal and state income tax You pay-as-you-go (each pay period) The amount of tax that is withheld from each paycheck depends on 3 things: 1.The amount of money you earn 2.Whether you are married or not 3.The number of allowances (or tax exemptions) you are entitled to claim
