2 Being overweight can lead to heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. Being underweight can cause fatigue (tiredness), sleeplessness, and irritability

3 Body Mass Index or BMI – a way to assess your body size by taking your height and weight into account

4 When dieting, it’s unhealthy to lose more than 1/2 to 1 pound per week.

5 Eating Disorders These are extreme eating behavoirs that can lead to illness or death. People with eating disorders are obsessed with their weight to the point that it dominates their thoughts

6 binge eating disorder- a disorder when a person overindulges repeatedly eating large amounts of food at one time bulimia nervosa- a person repeatedly eats large amounts of food and then purges (vomits) anorexia nervosa- a person has a great fear of weight gain so they starve themselves

7 People with anorexia often desire to be perfect. They are extremely thin. Those with bulimia often maintain a healthy body weight. These disorders can cause illness or death, and are most commonly found in teenage girls.

8 TV and magazines give the unhealthy message that you must be thin to be beautiful. With professional medical help and therapy, people with eating disorders can recover.
