3
Workflow Lifecycle Creation Mapping Scheduling/ Execution Reuse Distributed Slide courtesy by Gaurang Mehta & Ewa Deelman
4
Workflow & Alert WG: Objectives Promote standard-compliant workflow applications across all application threads –Reusability –Efficiency –Interoperation Demonstrate the capabilities of workflow as an efficient mechanism to assimilate resources across the Web To assist community WGs needs on workflow design, deployment, execution, and management, especially in service oriented environment
5
Workflow & Alert WG: kick off Possible participants & requirements from 37 responses, aspects cover the following categories –Engine –Editor/Modeler –Execution/management –Web Processing Services (WPSs) (Ref: http://www.ogcnetwork.net/node/402#Workflow)
6
Workflow & Alert WG: Activities Two teleconferences Email lists Google collaboration site GEOSS Registry exploration for possible candidate services to be used in the workflow use cases
7
Workflow & Alert WG: core requirements Cover the whole process from design, execution, and management –Design – designer needs to support interoperable protocols –Deployment and execution –Management – discovery of the workflow by others Best practices Interoperations – through geospatial standards –SOA –Grid –REST (one example based on BPEL-scripted workflow)
8
Workflow & Alert WG: use cases Use case: typical geospatial workflow design, deployment, execution, and registration –One example online environment is GeOnAS Access point: http://geobrain.laits.gmu.edu:81/OnAS/ http://geobrain.laits.gmu.edu:81/OnAS/ Demo video: http://geobrain.laits.gmu.edu:81/OnAS/demo.html http://geobrain.laits.gmu.edu:81/OnAS/demo.html User guide: http://geobrain.laits.gmu.edu:81/OnAS/User_Guide.pdf http://geobrain.laits.gmu.edu:81/OnAS/User_Guide.pdf Collection of best practices –Collaborating with community groups
9
Workflow & Alert WG: future activities Use case development –Identifying existing workflow and summarizes them as best practices –Collaborating with community working groups to apply the workflow technologies in their scenario development –Collaborating with other Transverse Technologies WGs e.g. Data Access Services WG for data resources to build workflow Engineering Report
