Students will understand the whole idea of calorie consumption. This adds a mathematical approach as well, being that calories make up our ultimate weight. To maintain your current weight: calories consumed = calories burned. To lose weight: calories consumed calories burned.
3
As the Physical Educator, it is my goal to include various styles of learning in the Physical Education setting to incorporate the differential learning strategies.
4
The package I am offering will most definitely focus on the idea of differential learning strategies, and well as introducing the idea of technology based material and programs. Included in such a package are: iPads, & the fitness pal app (free) downloaded to each. Attached to this idea would be the equipment needed for my fitness stations: jump ropes, aerobic steps, various hanging ropes for climbing, cones, and basketballs/nets (all of which is already stocked in the gymnasium closet – so no extra cost is needed.) This is a lifelong health & wellness package all in one!
5
Since each Physical Education class holds approximately 20-25 students per class, it would be best to order 30 iPads to meet the needs of each student. Best Buy is currently having a special offering iPads for $50 less than retail price. The sale price is $449.99 per iPad. However, for limited time only, Best Buy is offering these items in bulk of 20+ for 20% off each! Best Buy ipads ON SALE NOW!
6
I would like to introduce iPads to my students in an effort to incorporate the use of technology while broadening differential learning strategies.
7
Fitness Pal is an app that can be downloaded onto numerous technology devices, including the iPads. It is a calorie tracker, as well as a goal setter. One can type in their weight loss goals, and fitness pal will calculated how many calories should be consumed a day to meet the individual’s goal(s).
8
To go hand in hand with calorie intake, one must take into account their cardiovascular activity. With the fitness pal app, students will keep track of their calorie consumption along with their cardiovascular activity. The more activity, the more calories one can consume in a day.
9
Because this is a Physical Education setting, I would like to incorporate the use of cardiovascular fitness in class. In addition to the iPads and calorie tracker app, I will have stations for my students to participate in during class. The stations will be as follows: Jump rope station Step ups station Rope climbing station Running/jogging station Hula hoop station
10
The idea of the fitness stations is to show my students that by burning the calories, one is able to eat more if they choose. After each station, students will be given time to type in their exercise, and how many minutes performed. From that information, fitness pal will track how may calories they burned in the process, and that number will be added to their current calorie allowance for the day.
11
For example, if an individual weighs 200 lbs, and wants to lose 25 lbs, fitness pal will ask whether this person would like to lose between.5-2 lbs per week. The reason being is because this is the safest and healthiest way to lose weight, by losing no more than 2 lbs a week. Then, the app will calculate how many calories this person may consume to meet this specific number. It will also let you know where’d you be at if you continue following the program in weeks to come. If the individual is on 1,400 calories/a day, and they complete 350 calories burned on cardiovascular activities, they technically now can eat 1,750 by still staying on track. Again, the whole idea is based on mathematical equations.
12
The five stations that I will have set up for my students will require additional equipment. I will need jump ropes, aerobic steps, various hanging ropes for climbing, cones, and hula hoops. The good news is, the gymnasium closet already is stocked with all this equipment!
13
With the help from the iPads and the fitness pal app, it is my hope that my students will be more apt to stick with the program, as well as have a better understanding to how the body consumes and disposes of calories. By having this understanding, individuals are more likely to come back and use this knowledge in the future. This is one way, as the Physical Educator, I can help encourage lifelong health & wellness to all.
