Mentoring Program Description The AIM-IRS Career Assistance Mentoring Program (CAMP) is administered by the AIM-IRS National Mentoring Committee (Committee) and is an exclusive benefit of AIM-IRS membership The objective of CAMP is to prepare members for career advancement through the use of a mentor. CAMP is a self-help program that is designed to be completed on the protégé’s and mentor’s own time. There are nine (9) CAMP Objectives The Chapter provides career related workshops that the protégés are required to attend at least three. After all of the objectives have been met, the Coordinator certifies to the Committee that each protégé has completed the objectives and a certificate of completion is issued by the Committee. Upon completion of the program, the protégé may receive credit on the IRS Enterprise Learning Management System (ELMS). CAMP is listed as a workshop on ELMS and the official title is AIM-Career Assistance Mentoring Program (CAMP), item number 22940. CAMP Completion Meet with their Mentor on a monthly basis (at a minimum) Successfully complete and submit all assignments on a timely basis as outlined in the CAMP Handbook Follow through on commitments and agreements made with the Mentor Withdrawal or Removal from CAMP IRS Enterprise Learning Management System (ELMS)

Roles and Responsibilities The protégé and mentor signs the AIM-IRS National Career Assistance Mentoring Program Agreement to document their commitment to follow program guidelines. PROTÉGÉ Scheduling meetings with mentor Come to the table with assignments completed Adhere to mentor’s feedback and suggestions Turn-in activity within prescribed 30 day period to mentor TAKE CHARGE OF YOUR CAREER MENTOR Guide protégé through the program objectives Review documentation provided by protégé, providing constructive, open and honest feedback Submit completed assignments to the CAMP Coordinator MENTOR COACH Support mentor by monitoring the progress of the pair Maintain open communication between the mentor and protégé COORDINATOR – WORKSHOPS The CAMP Coordinator (Coordinator) administers the program by supporting the mentoring pairs to meet the objectives and ensuring that program guidelines are followed. The Chapter provides at least three career related workshops that the protégés are required to attend. These workshops are part of the 10 programmatic workshops that the Chapter normally delivers each year.

Required Materials AIM-IRS National CAMP Handbook Some of the objectives are based on Stephen Covey’s book, 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and the book is required reading for the class. Document 12151- Leadership Competency Book Form 10094: Career Learning Plan (CLP) – Employee Form 10094-B: Career Learning Plan (CLP) – Manager Action Verb List (Optional) Read pages 106-109 of, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, Stephen R. Covey Read pages 146-170 of 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. (Pay special attention to “The Time Management Matrix “on page 151).

National Agreement Article 30, Section 2 (D)… For employees who have a CLP approved by the Employer, the Employer will make reasonable efforts, consistent with workload and staffing needs, to approve up to sixteen (16) hours of administrative time per calendar year for self-directed training or developmental activities, if such activities are related to the employee’s current or prospective job duties.

CAMP Objectives OBJECTIVE 1 - SELF ASSESSMENT The purpose of this objective is for the protégé to assess their technical skills and competencies. This information will be used to establish career goals and a career development plan to achieve them.

CAMP Objectives (cont’d) OBJECTIVE 2 - SELF AWARENESS The purpose of this objective is for the protégé to define who they are and what they stand for. It is also intended to identify career goals, which will lead to the development of a career plan.

CAMP Objectives (cont’d) OBJECTIVE 3 – SELF DEVELOPMENT The purpose of this objective is to develop a plan to achieve your career goals.

CAMP Objectives (cont’d) OBJECTIVE 4 – TIME MANAGEMENT SKILLS The purpose of this objective is to enhance time management skills. Determining how to spend your time through setting priorities and planning and scheduling are critical to executing the career development plan and accomplishing goals.

CAMP Objectives (cont’d) OBJECTIVE 5 – PRESENTATION SKILLS The purpose of this objective is to enhance oral communication skills in order to perform in your current or target position.

CAMP Objectives (cont’d) OBJECTIVE 6 – SHADOWING ASSIGNMENT The purpose of the shadowing assignment is to gain knowledge of the protégés target position by observation and discussing the responsibilities of the job with the person they are shadowing.

CAMP Objectives (cont’d) OBJECTIVE 7 – NETWORKING SKILLS The purpose of this objective is to enhance current job performance as well as career advancement opportunities through networking.

CAMP Objectives (cont’d) OBJECTIVE 8 – JOB APPLICATION WRITING SKILLS The purpose of this objective is to enhance job application writing skills in order to effectively use the USAJobs application process. An emphasis on writing a resume that will capture your specific job experience is necessary to make it through the screening process.

CAMP Objectives (cont’d) OBJECTIVE 9 – INTERVIEWING SKILLS The purpose of this objective is to enhance interviewing skills through preparation and participation in a mock interview.
