To advance and integrate education and research in uncertainty, trust, and optimization in support of cyberinfrastructures and to develop scientist-centered software services and tools that encourage collaborative and interdisciplinary research approaches. The goals of the Center are to: 1.create a CI-enabled synergistic environment to support advances in earth and environmental science 2.train and educate a new generation of computer and interdisciplinary scientists CyberShARE Center of Excellence Computational Knowledge and Resources for Research and Education A Quest to Understand and Trust Scientific Results Geoscience-Integrated Analysis for Development of 3-D Models of Earth Structure Advancing the Utility of Cyberinfrastructure in the Environmental Sciences Computer Science Project Paulo Pinheiro da Silva, Vladik Kreinovich, and Ann Gates Earth Science Project Aaron Velasco, Leticia Velazquez, Miguel Argaez, and Vladik Kreinovich Environmental Science Project Craig Tweedie and Vladik Kreinovich Goals: Advance knowledge in the physical properties of the earth by developing data fusion methods for integrating data with varying accuracy and sensitivity Quantify assumed and measured data parameters required in the modeling process using multiple expressions of uncertainty Modify the modeling process to handle multiple functions of parameter uncertainty and minimize error Provide better evaluation of goodness of fit Ann Gates 1, Aaron Velasco 2, Craig Tweedie 3, Leticia Velasquez 4, Miguel Argaez 4, Paulo Pinheiro da Silva 1, Vladik Kreinovich 1 The University of Texas at El Paso 1 Computer Science Department; 2 Geological Sciences Department; 3 Environmental Sciences Department; 4 Mathematical Sciences Department (agates, aavelasco, ctweedie, leti, margaez, paulo, vladik)@utep.edu Undergraduate Research Experiences Scholars Program Distinguished Lecturer Series Visiting researcher program Workshops for students, teachers, scientists Opportunities to share resources through web portals Contact Information http://cybershare.utep.edu Executive Director: Rodrigo Romero (raromero2@utep.edu) Geology Building, room 124 The University of Texas at El Paso 500 West University Ave., El Paso, Texas, 79902, USA Phone: (915) 747-5916, Fax: (915) 747-7871 Goals: Enhance cyber-results with provenance Extend provenance to include uncertainty models Compute levels of uncertainty from uncertainty-enhanced provenance Extend provenance to include trust models Compute trust recommendations from trust-enhanced provenance Goals: Optimize data streams and sensor arrays in ecological and environmental networks by targeting improved characterization of environmental phenomena and processes Develop quality assurance and optimization tools for advanced static field-based instrumentation that improve characterization of environmental tipping points and stochastic events Develop tools for integrating voluminous data streams from movable sensor platforms Customize back-end tools that link, spatially extrapolate, and animate real time and archived data funded by grant HRD-0734825 Opportunities Mission and Goals Dr. Ann Gates with Ph.D. students Aida Gandara and Irbis Gallegos. Cyber-ShARE actively recruits and funds undergraduate and graduate students, in particular students from underserved groups, to conduct fundamental research associated with Cyber-ShARE projects.
