4 4 BACKGROUND Agreement reached: - SARMA has role to play - Must be actively involved in industry - Must draw up strategic plan On 6 November 2002: - Strategic plan accepted - Sarma to be out there

7 7 THE INDUSTRY 29 Companies producing RMC 19 Companies are members of SARMA Members produce 90%+ of RMC volumes in South Africa Market ± 3.5 million m 3 (RMC) Site batch market ± 3 million m 3

8 8 THE INDUSTRY Customer Requirements:- - More informed - Require better information - Want to reduce their risk - Want to stick to their core business - Want continuous improvement - Better service levels - Better quality

9 9 THE INDUSTRY Other requirements on industry:- - Pressure on environmental standards - Enforcement of standards to go up - Health & Safety standards will increase - Legal prosecutions will increase - Technology will play bigger role - Quality will be a must - Batch plants will have to be upgraded

10 10 WHAT IS SARMA GOING TO DO FOR INDUSTRY? 1. Quality: - Set standards and enforcement - Set quality scheme in place - Develop an audit program - Develop a grading system

11 11 WHAT IS SARMA GOING TO DO? 2. Health and Safety & Environmental - Continue to run program yearly - Upgrade the program - Use independent auditors - Do education on SHE - Require all members to be audited - Member must achieve more than 50%

12 12 WHAT IS SARMA GOING TO DO? 3. Transport -Liaise with Government on transport issues 4. Legal Compliance -Ensure our members comply to the laws 5. Education -Educate workforce
