2.  On December 12, 1901, Guglielmo Marconi (the inventor of the radio) received the first radio signal across the Atlantic. (from Newfoundland to England)  Shortly after noon he got a signal from his friend Cornwall, England. 3.  The first radio program in North America was a broadcast in 1920 from station XWA in Montreal  There were very few radio programs in Canada  Thousands of Canadians were buying radios for their homes  Most Canadians listened to America’s radio programs

4.  In the 1930’s the government of Canada created a nationwide network of radio stations; it was named the ‘’Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’’.  One of the most popular programs in Canadian history got started in November 1931  Canadians gathered around their radio’s on Saturday night, to watch ‘’Hockey Night In Canada.’’ The shows speaker was ‘’Foster Hewitt.’’  Foster Hewitt became famous for his phrase ‘’ he shoots, he scores.’’  By the end of 1930, ¾ of Canadians has radio’s in their home
