Terms to Learn Work - the action that results when a force causes an object to move in the direction of the force being applied and only when the force is being applied. Joule(J) – the unit for work (Nm)

The baseball pitcher does work on the ball by transferring energy into it. When the baseball leaves his hand he is no longer doing work on it.

Calculating Work W=Fd (Newton meter= Joule) where F is force acting in the same direction as the motion ( measured in Newtons) d is the distance traveled by the object. ( measured in meters)
