The larger the bit the slower the feed rate
Feed rates Turning Round IPM Turning Tool Profiles IPM Indexing IPM Rope and Barley Twist IPM Spirals IPM Surface Planing IPM Linear Cuts IPM The larger the bit the slower the feed rate
8
Spindle Speed Spindle speeds are by router bit diameter
0-.5 inches RPM .5-1 inch RPM 1-2 inches RPM 2-2.5 inches RPM 2.5-3 inches RPM
9
Turning Round This is used as the first step for all round spindles
Two options when turning round Side Bottom Side uses a two-flute strait cutting bit Bottom uses a bottom cleaning bit The speeds and feeds are different for both
10
The Side option Recommend using a ½ cutter
Step over is between 0.1 and 0.05 Feed rate is IPM This is used when making small mortis and tenon
11
The Bottom Option 1.25 Cutter
Used for roughing stock and tapering material Step over is between 0.5 and 0.125 Feed rate is IPM
12
Turning Tool Profiles This program uses router bit profiles to turn shapes into your spindle Important things to know Spindle speed Which side to climb mill Feed Rate
13
Indexing This program is used for fluting and reeding
Important things to know Number of flutes Start and end points Feed Rate
14
Rope and Barley Twist Important things to know Direction of the spiral
Finished diameter Cutting depth Start and finish positions Router bit Diameter
15
Spirals Slightly different than Rope and Barley twist The differences
Router bit diameter vs. Spiral pitch Cutting depth is very important
16
Surface Planing Planing burled wood Climb mills for the best cut
No tear out 0,0 point is the lower left corner
17
Linear Cuts This is for fluting or reeding on flat stock
0,0 point is the lower left corner
