GREAT TURKISH INVENTIONS

As they lived,human-being tried to change their life styles for a better condition. So they decided to create new things to simplify their lives in hard conditions. When we looked at our history we found so many intelligently designed inventions by Turkish inventors

Generally they had inventions in Math,Science,Medical,Geography,Architectur e,Physics,Astronomi,Zoology,Bothanics and many others. Here they are..

The First Flying Attempt One of the biggest achievements of man,is ‘’flying like a bird in the sky’’.

HEZARFEN AHMET CELEBI Hezarfen Ahmed Celebi is the first Turkish Scientist who managed to fly. He lived in the 17 th century, in the sultanate of Murad IV. He was famous for his unlimited inteligent and imagination. He was commonly known as Hezar-fen, because his flight and his deep knowledge of science. Some people around him thought that he is a crazy man.

He made experiments and searches about different kinds of subjects in his house and created the basic shapes of today’s air transportation devices. He prepared his wings, by examining the wings of birds.

One morning, in front of all the people in Istanbul, he jumped fromthe Galata Tower and by moving his wings, he passed through he Golden Horn and landed to Uskudar. Sultan Murad IV watched the event from Sinan Pasha Villa in Sarayburnu. At first he appreciated Ahmed Chelebi, but, later he became suspicious about his talents and knowledge. At last, the Sultan exiled Celebi to Algeria and he died there.

The First world map by Piri Reis In 1929, a group of historians found an amazing map drawn on a gazelle skin. Research showed that it was a map drawn by Ottoman admiral and cartographer Piri Reis. The Piri Reis map shows the western coast of Africa, the eastern coast of South America, and the northern coast of Antarctica. The northern coastline of Antarctica is perfectly detailed.

One-third of the map shows the western coasts of Europe and North Africa and the coast of Brazil with reasonable accuracy. Various Atlantic islands including the Azores and Canary Islands.

Who is Piri Reis? Piri Reis was a Turkish military captain was an Ottoman admiral, geogr apher and cartographer born between 1465 and 1470, and died in 1553. He is primarily known today for his maps and charts collected in his Kitab-ı Bahriye (Book of Navigation), a book that contains detailed information on navigation, as well as very accurate charts (for its time) describing the important ports and cities of the Mediterranean Sea

Volitan The Volitan is a sea-boat equipped with solar cell panels, which uses both wind and solar energy.

The Volitan is a proposed design for a boat equipped with solar cell pannels, which uses both wind and solar energy. The design has been awarded first prize in the "The Best Nautical/Boat" and "The Best Transportation Vehicle of the Year" categories at the International Design Award, 2007.

In the design, Volitan is inspired from a flying fish.(an extinction fish)It uses sails, wind and solar power to get around, It stores energy in batteries. The engine doesnt need any oil to start. It uses the energy stored ın the batterıes. So ıt ıs a green technology, and doesnt pollute the enviroment. It produces clean and cheap energy.

Volitan has been awarded first prize in the "The Best Nautical/Boat" and "The Best Transportation Vehicle of the Year" categories at the International Design Award, 2007,in New York.

Hakan Gürsu Hakan Gürsu was born in 1959 in Ankara.he graduated from the Middle East Technical University (METU), Department of Industrial Design. He has a full time academic position in University, Department of Architecture and Industrial Design.

In 2007, he won the “International Design Award” in two disciplines and became the first designer who brought “Oscars of Design” to Turkey. He also received various awards regarding his effective contributions to environmental problems. Since May 2007, he has been a regular author of the Science and Technology magazine of TÜBİTAK wrote many articles in the field of creativity and design. In 2009 he also won 3 international green dot awards in USA.
