3 Next we need to know the parts of a trapezoid. These will be used for the formula. Base leg height

4 But what do the symbols mean in the equation? ½ (b 1 +b 2 )h b 1 = the first (top) base b 2 = the second (bottom) base H= height b1b1 b2b2 h

5 Let’s try it out! A trough has been made. The side’s top is 10 inches long. The bottom base is 4 inches long. If the height is 6 inches, what is the area of the side of the trough? I think it’s time to plug things in! 10 in. 4 in. 6 in.

6 Remember the formula? Let’s plug the numbers into the formula! ½(10+4)6 Now the answer is… 42! ½(b 1 +b 2 )h 10 in. 5 in. 6 in.
