2. Linking verb… Connects the subject of a sentence with a noun or adjective in the predicate. –Am, is, are, was, were, be, being, been –Become, seem, appear, look, grow, turn, taste, feel, smell, sound

3. Linking verbs… Some linking verbs can be used as action verbs also. –Ex. The director grew angry. LV –Ex. The director grew a beard. AV

4. Predicate Nouns and Adjectives Linking verbs do not have DO or IO. Linking verbs have PN or PA.

5. Predicate Nouns A predicate noun is a noun that follows a linking verb and renames or identifies the subject. It tells what the subject is. –Ex. The boy is a soccer player. LV PN

6. Predicate Adjectives… A predicate adjective is an adjective that follows a linking verb. It describes the subject by telling what it is like. –Ex. The book is interesting. LV PA

7. Steps… 1. Find the linking verb. 2. Look for a word after the verb that renames or describes the subject. 3. Decide if that word is a noun or an adjective. 4. If it is a noun, it is a PN. If it is an adjective, it is a PA.

8. Practice…Copy these to your notes and label the LV and PN/PA. 1. Justin was a great writer. 2. His book is intriguing. 3. Some of the characters were children. 4. It seems popular.
