What is hygiene Hygiene is the practice of maintaining good health, being clean and avoiding germs.

What is hygiene It can also be defined as the act of cleanliness as a means of ensuring a healthy living

Ensuring personal hygiene Washing hands with soap and water Keeping finger nails and toenails always short and clean Bathing always Teeth should be washed always

Ensuring domestic hygiene Sweeping of homes Scrubbing of floor Wash dish after meal use clean and treated in cooking House should have enough windows to ensure ventilation

Ensuring public hygiene Cleaning of market places frequently Health education should be organized in schools to make pupils aware of the need for hygienic community

WHAT IS FIRST AID This can be described as the emergency care for a victim of sudden illness or injury until more skillful medical treatment is available

First aid must always be administered as quickly as possible

Importance of first aid First aid is given to casualties to 1.Preserve life 2.Prevent worsening of condition 3.Promote recovery 4.Relief pain

Basic first aid techniques An individual providing first aid can save lives by maintaining a casualties vital needs, this rule is known as the ABC rule

A= AIRWAY Open the airways to allow unobstructed passage of air

B= breathing An individual can help a victim by giving mouth to mouth or mouth to nose ventilation

C=circulation There should be chest compression to apply pressure on the chest and so pump blood through

In our next lesson, we would be looking at the skeletal system. Before carrying out first aid, you must know how to carefully handle the victim and not making worsening the victims injury.
