21 Because of the liberating experience of impressionism, other artists emerged with variations on the style such as Vincent Van Gogh- a post impressionist- Post impressionists use impressionist styles, but were using color, marks and the subject matter in a more abstract, symbolic and emotional way, thus influencing early expressionism.
