3. Making Use of Section Titles  Sections titles are there to help you, not for decoration.  A quick glance of all the titles and subtitles help you locate important information.

5. Adjusting Your Pace  You don’t always have to read every word of a paper.  Skip or skim some parts if they are unimportant or uninteresting.  Slow down at the sections between “related work” and “experiment” / “conclusion”.

6. Bits and Bytes  What if you can’t focus?  Your brain is not a CPU. Don’t practice multitasking.  Start training with a collection of.  Force yourself to read more or faster than you normally can.

7. Bits and Bytes  What if you find unknown words?  Consult your dictionary only if necessary.  Don’t always jot down Chinese meanings.  Refer to Lecture 2 / “Understanding Unknown Words”.

8. Bits and Bytes  What if you can’t read fast?  It’s OK to read a paper slowly.  Start with short papers to build your confidence.  Read survey papers of a more familiar subject.
