11 Advantages of allowing customers to use credit cards: Customers’ credit is evaluated by the credit card issuer. The risks of extending credit are transferred to the credit card issuer. Cash collections are quicker. Sales increase by providing payment options to the customer. Credit Card Sales C1 7-11

12 With some credit cards and nearly all debit cards, the seller deposits the credit card sales receipts in the bank just like it deposits a customer’s check. 15 Installment Accounts Receivable Amounts owed by customers from credit sales for which payment is required in periodic amounts over an extended time period. The customer is usually charged interest, which is the cost for the use of money over time. C1 7-15

19 Matching vs. Materiality The matching (expense recognition) principle requires expenses to be reported in the same accounting period as the sales they help produce. The materiality constraint states that an amount can be ignored if its effect on the financial statements is unimportant to users’ business decisions. P1 7-19
