2 Who is OER Africa? Small non-profit organization Founded in 2008 Funded by the Hewlett Foundation Mission: Connect like-minded African academics to create and share OER in higher education

3 OER Africa’s Health OER Project Partnership with five universities: University of Michigan Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) (Ghana) University of Ghana (UG) (Ghana) University of Cape Town (UCT) (South Africa) University of the Western Cape (UWC) (South Africa) Project objectives Create sustainable OER programs at the partner institutions with the long-term goal of improving health care education and increasing the number of trained healthcare professionals in Ghana and South Africa

4 Objectives & Outcomes Learning Objectives Learn about higher education in Ghana and South Africa Deepen knowledge about Ghanaian and South African copyright law Become familiar with the Ghanaian national service policy Build professional skills and cultural awareness regarding development work in Ghana and South Africa Project Deliverables 1.Summaries of the over 30 meetings I conducted with four institution 2.An OER toolkit as a training resourceOER toolkit 3.Documentation of existing processes at KNUST and UG 4.Contributed to a two-year follow-on draft grant proposal with the Hewlett Foundation
