3 Amiable  (adj) friendly and easy to like  She is so amiable and always makes friends wherever we go.  Synonyms: sociable, agreeable  Antonyms: unfriendly, disagreeable  Also: Amicable

4 Gratis  (adj/adv) done or given without payment  The dinner was gratis because the order was wrong, and the food was cold.  Synonyms: free, complimentary, costless  Antonyms: restricted, costly  Also: gratuitous

5 Impartial  (adj) not involved in a particular situation, and therefore able to give a fair opinion or advice  The judge is impartial in a trial and must hear both sides before making a decision.  Synonyms: neutral, fair, unbiased  Antonyms: influenced, partial  Also: impartiality

6 Jaded  (adj) someone who is no longer interested in or excited by something, usually because they have experienced too much of it.  After traveling the world, the drummer is very jaded and finds it boring.  Synonyms: world-weary, fed-up  Antonyms: fresh, enthusiastic  Also: jadedly, jadedness

7 Mellow  (adj) not bright, loud, harsh, or strong in flavor; not strict  My uncle is very mellow. It takes a lot to get him angry.  Synonyms: relaxed, soften, calm  Antonym: riled-up  Also: mellowed

8 Nonchalant  (adj) behaving calmly and not seeming interested in or worried about anything  He nonchalantly shrugged his shoulders and walked away because he did not want the class to think he cared about his low grade.  Synonyms: casual, offhand, cool  Antonym: concerned  Also: nonchalance, nonchalantly

9 Parody  (n) a piece of writing, music, or an action that copies someone or something in a humorous way  The comedian writes many parodies that always make the audience laugh.  Synonyms: imitation, satire, caricature  Also: parodies

10 Remorse  (n) a strong feeling of being sorry that you did something bad or wrong  He felt remorse after he stole the laptop from the library.  Synonyms: regret, sorrow, repentance  Antonyms: happiness, satisfaction  Also: remorseful

11 Trite  (adj) a remark or idea that is boring, not new, and insincere  The trite comment has been used so many times it’s not even funny anymore.  Synonyms: stale, tired, worn  Antonym: original  Also: tritely

12 Zany  (adj) crazy or unusual in an amusing way  It’s certain that she will wear a zany costume to the movie premiere.  Synonyms: wacky, screwy, silly, unconventional  Antonym: serious  Also: zaniest

13 Assignment-List 6  Using at least five of the words, write a fictional journal entry about something funny that happened.  You MUST use them correctly in order to receive credit.  It’s best to choose the words that you need to study.
