ASTHMA Increased Breathing Apprehension Anxiety Wheezing *No Improvement after initial treatment with inhaler. *Chest and neck muscles "pulling in" with breathing (retractions) *Trouble walking and talking *Stops playing and can't start activity again. *Lips or fingernails turn gray or blue RESPONSE *ContactParent * If unable to contact parent Call 911

3. Severe Allergic Reaction Anaphylaxis Difficulty Breathing Wheezing Respirations Dizziness Cool/Clammy Skin Flushing Apprehension Fainting Increased Heart Rate Seizures Vomiting Diarrhea RESPONSE 1. Administer Medication as Ordered in Individual Care Plan- Benadryl or Epi-Pen. 2. CALL 911!

4. SEIZURES *Seizure Activity lasting more then 2 minutes or as indicated on the care plan. *The child has more than one seizure without fully recovering from the first. *The child becomes seriously injured during the seizure ( falls, hitting head, etc.) *Loss of consciousness and/ or breathing. RESPONSE *Loosen tight clothing *Remove Glasses if applicable *Protet from injury *Do not restrain *Maintain Open Airway *MonitorBreathing * If breathing stops, perform rescue breathing and CALL 911

5. AIRWAY OBSTRUCTION *Stridor *Places hands to throat- "Universal Sign of Distress" *Inability to talk *Inability to cough * Cyanosis * Unconsciousness * Respiratory arrest * Cardiac arrest RESPONSE 1. Heimlich Maneuver 2. Call 911/ parent

6. HYPOGLYCEMIA LOW BLOOD SUGAR *Excessive perspiration *Trembling *Dizziness *Pale Complexion *Inability to concentrate *Crying or confusion *Headache *Loss of Consciousness *Seizure RESPONSE 1. Give Sugar Immediately, as per individual care plan,or: Gel Cake Icing- 4oz tube, 1/2 cup soda or fruit juice with sugar, hard candy. 2. If unconscious- Administer Glucagon injection asordered by MD.

7. HYPERGLYCEMIA HIGH BLOOD SUGAR *Dry, labored breathing *Heavy Thrist *Flushed, dry skin *Frequent urinating *Vomiting *Fruity smell to breath Blood sugar >individualized Ketones in urine RESPONSE 1. Report symptoms to parents immediately 2. Give insulin as per MD order

8. HEAD INJURY CONCUSSION **Weakness/paralysis of either arm or leg *Vomiting *Abnormal breathing *Seizures *Slowing of pulse or rapid/weak pulse *Disturbance of speech or vision **Unconsciousness *Loss of bowel or bladder control ** Pain or stiffness of neck * Blood or clear fluid dripping from ears or nose * Pupils of unequal size Change in Temperature Confusion, disorientation Continued Headache Dizziness RESPONSE 1. Notify parent of all head injuries and alert to symptoms of concussion. 2. CALL 911 3. Monitor all symptoms until EMS arrives 4. Keep student quiet and in an upright position- Except when there is the possibility of a spinal injury. If injury to the spine is suspected- Do not move the child at all. Place your hands on either side of his head, and keep him in the position in which you found him. 5. Assess level of consciousness frequently 6. Do Not blow a bloody nose or attempt to clear blood from ears or nose.
