Still life An arrangement of nonmoving objects that are subject matter for a work of art.

Line An elements of design that is a continuous mark made by a tool as it is drawn across a surface.

Contour line Lines that define the outer edges of forms and surfaces within a form, such as shapes or wrinkles and folds.

A heavy line that gives weight, structure, and strength to a drawing.
Stroke A heavy line that gives weight, structure, and strength to a drawing.

Massing The techniques of connecting the darks in a drawing into larger values shapes.

Trompe l’oeil The French term for “trick the eye”. An illusion technique often relying on high value contrast in which nature is copied so realistically that the subject can be mistaken for a real object.

vanitas A type of still life that includes objects that symbolized the shortness of life, such as hourglass, skulls, mirrors, butterflies and flowers.

Then draw out a thumbnail of your still life. Your subject matter will be different. It should be of items or objects that you treasure or are of importance to you.

Next step 1. after planning out your thumbnail you will need to make a large sketch using NEWSPRINT PAPER. 2. The newsprint should be the size that you want your final painting or drawing to be. 3. experiment with the medium you intend on using. ( in sketch book or other paper)

Final Project Each of you will use a different media and different paper or boards. Dead line for the final project will be:______________________________ Late work will only be accepted ONE DAY LATE: -10 POINTS It will be a ZERO if it is not completed

Criteria for grade Strong composition- good use of the space in your picture. ( rule of thirds) Neatness in the medium you selected. Craftsmanship and effort good use of class time Successful in capturing the style of the inspirational art work and artist.
