Super Schools 2009 Super Schools

The History of Super Schools Established in 1979 by Brian and Diana Hubbard. Number 1 company visiting schools and promoting sports with 30 Years of history, heritage and credibility Created to motivate and encourage children to take up sport and create a better style of life, promoting the health aspects of playing sport One of the most unique fundraising opportunities for schools in the UK Participation of nearly 100 of Britain's leading sports stars. Professional set-up to help teachers get the most from the day and not encroach on their valuable time In line with UK PE curriculum in schools Now managed by Jamie Baulch

Why Super Schools? Super Schools is targeting children 4 -13 years old We aim to visit 1000 schools by the end of school year 2011 in the lead up to the 2012 Olympics Britain now has the highest obesity rates per capita, even beating the US Obese people are more likely to suffer from diseases such as Diabetes, high blood Pressure and coronary heart disease. Between 1996 and 2001 the UK proportion of overweight children increased by 7 per cent and obese children by 3.5 per cent. If the current trend of childhood obesity continues to rise, 1 in 4 people in the UK will be obese by 2010

The Concept Overview A school is visited for half a day by a British sports star Every child between 4-13, is photographed individually with the sporting celebrity and have autograph opportunities Each child gets sponsored by friends and family to take part in a series of exercises on the day, overseen by Super Schools staff and the celebrity Children then have a half hour motivational talk from the celebrity, outlining the benefits of playing sport After the Visit Children receive their photo with celebrity and have a chance to get it framed School is revisited a year later to see how the children are doing

Before the day Information A preliminary talk is done with the children so they understand the Super Schools concept The children are made aware of the celebrity coming to see them and what he/she has achieved Each child takes away a sponsor form and approaches their family to sponsor them in the challenge The sponsorship money is split between the schools and SS business, the schools receive 60% of the sponsorship money, approx £10 per child Conclusion This is a unique opportunity for children to interact with a sports star and receive a photographic souvenir of the day as a long-lasting memory. The school is also able to raise money for themselves and benefits greatly by encouraging the children to be involved in something completely different.
