2. Community of Practice Domain—the shared interest that provides the incentive and passion for the group to come together. CoPs are autonomous - the scope of the domain is agreed upon by the CoP. Community—the group of people who come together with a common interest. The community fosters a sense of belonging and collaboration. Practice—the agreed upon ways of formalizing and implementing the collectively developed knowledge – furthers community’s mission.

3. What does it look like ? Communication practices between all levels are more transparent and bidirectional All community members' needs are voiced and considered Decisions are community-based; project direction takes on a participatory approach CoPs provide equal emphasis on "Practice", "Domain", and "Community“

4. CICs The Community Interest Company structure was created to allow a company which works for the benefit of the community. The intention is that these companies use their profits and assets solely for the public good. 1 in 200 companies setup in the UK is now a CIC Current Examples in NHS – OPEN Maxims CIC members include ST Helens and Knowlsey and Blackpool.

5. The Governance To set up a CIC, you need to apply to Companies House, and: include a ‘community interest statement’, explaining what your business plans to do create an ‘asset lock’- a legal promise stating that the company’s assets will only be used for its social objectives, and setting limits to the money it can pay to shareholders get your company approved by the community interest company regulator - your application will automatically be sent to themcommunity interest company regulator Similar to limited company governance.

Bolton’s Experience We are part of the Open Eyes Community of Practice We are part of the Code4Health Community of Practice Looking at becoming full members of Open Eyes Foundation (similar to a CIC) Looking at further options :- CIC for PACs ? CIC for Datawell ? CIC for shared services of other types ? CIC as part of the new Great Manchester governance ?
