2 Space Figures (10-4) What is a space figure?
space figure – a three-dimensional figure (also called a solid) Examples: prisms, pyramids, cylinders, cones, and spheres Prism 1. The two parallel bases (bottoms) are congruent (equal) polygons (many sided shape). 2. Lateral (side) faces that connect the bases are parallelograms. 3. A diagonal can connect two opposite vertices (corners). Examples: tissue or shoe boxes, slice of pie, tents,Toblerone, and a piece of cake Pyramid 1. The base (bottom) is a polygons 2. The lateral (side) faces are triangle that meet at the top to form a vertex. Examples: Great Pyramids in Egypt, pointed roofs

3 Space Figures (10-4) Cylinder
Sphere Cylinder 1. Two parallel bases that are congruent (equal) circles. Examples: marshmallows, cans, canister, poles, pipes, and paper towel rolls Prism 1. This has one circular base and one vertex (point). 2. The difference between a prism and a pyramid is a prism has two bases and a pyramid has one. Examples: ice cream cone, party hats, funnels, snow cones, traffic cones, princess hat, and the top of a rockets Sphere 1. Every point on the sphere is the same exact distance from the center. Examples: globes, balls, marbles, beads, oranges

4 Describe the bases and name the figure.
Space Figures LESSON 10-4 Additional Examples Describe the bases and name the figure. The bases are circles. The figure is a cylinder.

5 Space Figures (10-4) Solid Net What is a net and how do you draw one?
net: a two dimensional figure that can be folded to form a three dimensional solid (called a space figure). Solid Net

6 Space Figures (10-4) Solid Net

7 Space Figures (10-4) Solid Net

8 Name the space figure you can form from the net.
Space Figures LESSON 10-4 Additional Examples Name the space figure you can form from the net. With two hexagonal bases and rectangular sides, you can form a hexagonal prism.

9 Describe the base(s) and name each solid. 1. 2.
Space Figures LESSON 10-4 Lesson Quiz Describe the base(s) and name each solid. 1. 2. 3. Name the solid you can form from this net. circular base; cone triangular bases; triangular prism octagonal pyramid
