The Sphere  The maximum distance through the sphere is called the diameter, it is twice the size of the radius.  A sphere is a perfectly round three dimensional shape similar to a round ball you might play soccer or basketball with.  All points on the surface of a sphere are the same distance from the center. Back To Object Slide

The Cube  A cube is a three dimensional shape that features all right angles and a height, width and depth that are all equal  Most dice are cube shaped, featuring the numbers 1 to 6 on the different faces.  A cube is a special geometric shape that falls into a number of groups including platonic solids and regular hexahedrons. Back To Object Slide

The Octagon  An octagon has 8 straight sides.  When all angles are equal and all sides are equal it is regular, otherwise it is irregular.  Has interior angles that add to 1080 degrees Back To Object Slide

The Cylinder  A cylinder is a three dimensional object with a circular base and straight parallel sides that looks similar to a can of coke.  Right Cylinder: A right cylinder is a cylinder in which the centers of the bases are aligned directly one above the other.  Oblique Cylinder: When the centers of the bases of a cylinder are not aligned directly one above the other, it is called an oblique cylinder.  ex: Back To Object Slide

The Cone  The cone has a flat base, one curved side, and because it has a curved surface it is not a polyhedron.  A cone is a three dimensional object with a circular base that narrows toward a point, it looks similar to an ice cream cone.  The cone has one vertex. Back To Object Slide

The Rectangular Prism is…  A prism with rectangular bases.  There are six faces.  All faces meet at 90 degrees.  Opposite faces are parallel. Back To Object Slide

Quiz  1. What is the shape that has 8 sides, equal sides, and interior angles of 1080 degrees? -The CylinderThe Cylinder -The ConeThe Cone -The rectangular prismThe rectangular prism -The OctagonThe Octagon

The Cylinder is INCORRECT  A cylinder is a three dimensional object with a circular base and straight parallel sides that looks similar to a can of coke. Back To Quiz

The Cone is INCORRECT  A cone is a three dimensional object with a circular base that narrows toward a point, it looks similar to an ice cream cone. Back To Quiz

The Rectangular Prism Is INCORRECT A prism with rectangular bases. There are six faces. All faces meet at 90 degrees. Back To Quiz

The Octagon is CORRECT  The shape that has 8 sides, equal sides, and interior angles of 1080 degrees Final Slide

CONGRATULATIONS  You have successfully completed learning about the shapes! Back To First Slide
