7. Prefixes We modify our base units with prefixes to adjust our measurements. For example, the distance from Winnipeg to Brandon is approximately 200 000 m. However, we don’t use meters to describe the distance, we use Kilometers. Each Kilometer is 1000 m. It is approximately 200 km from Winnipeg to Brandon. The prefix Kilo, is how we indicate the measure given is 1000 sets of the unit.
